A Pensive Shepherd in a Mountainous Landscape

Curiously, there is no accounting for this artist who has so courteously signed and dated his work. He does not turn up in the most comprehensive listing of artists, Union List of Artist's Names, compiled by the Getty. However, he no doubt is a professional, schooled in the art of landscape as well as portraiture; both elements of the present work are accomplished. Parisil has chosen to exclude the shepherd's flock from his painting. His focus is instead on the distant gaze or far away state of mind of the shepherd who though alone in a monumental landscape but in no way diminished by it.
